What is a bariatric wheelchair?

Category: Medical Supplies

Answer:

Bariatric wheelchairs are heavy duty wheelchairs (electric or manual) intended to safely transport larger individuals. Most bariatric wheelchairs will have reinforced steel, aluminum, or titanium frames that are specifically designed for individuals that exceed 350lbs. These types of wheelchairs will not only offer additional strength but will usually have a larger seating area, leg supports, and a number of other customizable options. The solid rubber tires of bariatric wheelchairs are also an important feature. Having no air in the tires allows increased support and decreases the likelihood of tire failure.
