However, sea salt is often marketed as a more natural and healthy alternative. The real differences between sea salt and table salt are in their taste, texture and processing, not their chemical makeup”.

The supposed health benefits of sea salt can be attributed to certain specific minerals that are said to be removed during the processing of regular table salt. But, there is very little research indicating that sea salt is beneficial to your diet over common refined table salt. In fact, since sea salt is not refined, some observers have indicated that it could be harmful if it was removed from polluted water sources. The real benefits of sea salt come from its larger, unrefined crystals which ultimately allow you to use less salt when flavoring your food. A single spoonful of regular, refined table salt contains much more sodium than a spoonful of sea salt. So, in many cases, when you add sea salt to your food you are using less of it than you normally would.
