What is a CDMA cell phone network?

Category: Cell Phones

Answer:

CDMA Cell PhoneCDMA is an acronym that stands for Code Division Multiple Access. It was originally developed by Qualcomm (later enhanced by Ericsson) and is the cell phone technology that is usually only seen in the US and Asia. Sprint, Virgin Mobile and Verizon Wireless use CDMA while T-Mobile and AT&T use GSM. While CDMA and GSM are similar in terms of their bandwidth speed, GSM has better international coverage due to roaming and international roaming contracts but with CDMA you’ll get better coverage in most areas of the US. With CDMA technology your account and identity are programmed into the phone itself, there is no SIM card. To change phones you’ll often need to contact the carrier and make the appropriate modifications. You also will typically have to re-enter your contacts and other information into the new phone (this can easily be done with the right software). CDMA cell phones are also often seen as the better choice if you use the phone for mobile web browsing, television, or downloading files.
