What is a corrugated box?

Category: Packaging

A corrugated box is special type of box that is specifically designed to be used for packaging and shipping a variety of products. Corrugated boxes are manufactured in a way that protects their contents through the use of fluted layers. These fluted layers provide support, insulation, and protection throughout the entire product distribution process.

Corrugated boxes have two parts; the outer layer or linerboard and the inner layer or medium (flutes). Sandwiching the linerboard and medium creates the crush resistance necessary to protect its contents. The larger the flute size or the density of flutes determines the crush resistance of the box. Some boxes will have a small number of larger flutes; some will have a large amount of small flutes. The contents of the box will often determine the style that is needed.
