What is a Creative Commons license?

Category: Law

Answer:

Creative Commons is a US charitable corporation that promotes the adoption of Creative Commons licenses and tools. A Creative Commons license helps individuals with their intellectual property rights. It gives individuals the ability to dictate how their copyrighted works are distributed.

There are circumstances where a full copyright just won’t do. Sometimes, to gain exposure and widespread distribution, a creative work needs to have some of its copyright restrictions lifted. This is where Creative Commons comes in. They give copyright owners a set of licenses designed to reuse, modify, copy, and distribute their work in a way that is acceptable to the owner. And it is all done at no charge.
