How much crude oil is contained in a barrel?

A barrel is actually a unit of measure used in the oil industry that is used to describe forty-two US gallons of crude oil. BPD is an acronym meaning “barrels per day”. It is used to describe the number of barrels either consumed or produced on any given day and is the oil industry standard in the US. About twenty-three gallons of gasoline can be refined from a barrel of crude oil. The remaining waste is used to create other petroleum based products.
