What are diabetic shoes?

Category: Medical Supplies

Answer:

Diabetic shoes are also known as orthopedic shoes and are specifically designed for patients who suffer from diabetes or arthritis related foot symptoms. The shoes are generally wider and deeper to allow for special orthopedic insoles to be inserted. It is also important for orthopedic shoes to be well ventilated to reduce dampness and heat. Proper fit and good air circulation are only two of the characteristics of properly designed diabetic shoes, but possibly the most important (next to style of course, for some). But they are helpful in preventing pressure ulcers, encouraging good blood circulation, and allowing the foot to breathe.
