What is embossing?
|
Answer:
Embossing is a method of elevating either images or letters from the face of a substrate (surface) using pressure and heat. The substrate can be anything including paper, metal, clothing, and vinyl. To create the effect of embossing, a metal (usually brass or copper) die is cast to resemble the artwork or lettering needed for the impression. When pressure is added between the die and substrate, a pattern is formed, revealing the imprinted raised layer. Embossing can give a professional look to a variety of items.
