What are the FIFA World Cup tie breakers/breaking rules?

With the final group play matches underway, here are the tie-breaking rules that will determine which teams will advance to the 2nd round or round of 16. These are the official FIFA tie-breakers.

The ranking of each team in each group will be determined in order as follows:

1. Greatest number of points obtained in all group matches.
2. Goal difference in all group matches.
3. Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria,
their rankings will be determined in order as follows:

1. Greatest number of points obtained in group matches for the teams involved.
2. Goal difference resulting from the group matches for the teams involved.
3. Greater number of goals scored in all group matches for the teams involved.
4. Drawing of lots by the FIFA Organizing Committee.
