What is an ISBN? Does my book need one?
|
Answer:
The International Standard Book Number or ISBN is a 13-digit number used to
globally identify books and other written works. The ISBN barcode is usually
located on the back cover or dust jacket of most books sold at retail outlets.
The four parts of the ISBN system are located below.
- The group identifier represents the geographic combination of publishers.
- The publisher identifier represents a particular publisher within each group.
- The title identifier represents the title or edition.
- The check digit code is a single digit used to validate the ISBN.
R. R. Bowker, LLC is the exclusive US ISBN issuer and can be contacted via
their website www.isbn.org.
