Can I manually open my garage door if my garage door opener is broken?

Category: Home Improvement

Answer:

For newer garage doors or garage doors made in the last 15 years, there is a manual release cord that allows the garage door to be raised and lowered manually. Older openers may not have this release cord and may need to be release by either a handle, a spring loaded clip, or possibly removing the arm from the door altogether. Only use this manually release feature when the garage door is fully closed. Look at around 1:20 of the video below. It shows how to manually release your garage door.
