Should I have my roof completely replaced if there is a leak?
It is possible but not always necessary to have your roof replaced if there is a leak. Leaks can often be a result of loose or damaged roof flashing that has deteriorated over time due to the weather or other external conditions. A complete roof system failure is typically not reversible and is often due to improper maintenance, installation, or the type of roofing materials that are used.
The recent trend in roofing is toward engineered roofing materials. This change is being driven by the high cost of wood and the safety codes mandating the use of fireproof construction materials. Engineered roofing materials will also typically last much longer than wood and clay.
