What is smythe sewn binding?
|
Answer:
Smythe sewing is a method of attaching the pages of a book preparatory to attaching the cover. Multiple pages are printed on a single sheet, which is then folded to make signatures. Smythe sewing then attaches multiple signatures together by sewing through the folds on the binding edge. Smythe sewn binding is the “gold standard” highest quality binding for hard cover books. It can also be use for soft cover books. |
