What are web cookies? How are they used?

Category: Computers & Internet

Answer:

Web cookies are small text files that are left on your computer when you visit certain web sites. The websites that create the cookies leave them to monitor, track, and remember your browsing habits on that particular site only. They are most often used to save preferences and custom functions like logins and shopping cart totals. They are not spyware because they do not reveal your identity or personal information. Most cookies are temporary and will be purged once your browser has closed.
