What are architectural shingles?

Category: Home Improvement

Answer:

Architectural ShinglesArchitectural shingles (also called dimensional or laminate shingles) are basically a variation of the standard three-tab roofing shingles that, when installed, give a roof a layered, three dimensional effect. They are essentially high end asphalt shingles that allow for a unique appearance and longer life due to their thickness and texture. Architectural shingles are installed by staggering these extra thick layers. The staggering gives roofers the ability to provide the home owner with a heavier architectural look and feel. They are usually manufactured by combining a heavy fiber glass base, asphalt, and tightly packed ceramic-coated granules. These materials create a very heavy, high quality product that is resistant to heavy winds, algae, water, and fire.
