What is a DAT file?

Category: Computers & Internet,Software

Answer:

DAT FileA DAT file (.dat file extension) is a type of computer file format that typically contains binary “data” for the customized settings of a specific program, application, or operating system. It is often considered to be a generic type of file that can contain almost any software specific data left by the programmer. DAT files are usually application specific, so unless you have the program or application that created it, you won’t be able to read it properly or open it. Programmers often use data files to store information so the user won’t be able to change it. So essentially, if you are not a programmer or interested in how an application works, these files will probably not interest you very much.
