What is biodiesel fuel?

Category: Energy & Fuel

Answer:

Biodiesel fuel is a clean burning alternative fuel that can be produced from almost any fresh or recycled oil. It can be used as fuel for any diesel engine or as a substitute for heating oil. Since soybeans are one of the most abundant crops grown in the US, it’s easy to see why its oil was the ideal choice for creating this unique fuel.

Biodiesel can be used alone (B100), or blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It is biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. One bushel of soybean can produce about 1 1/2 gallons of biodiesel fuel.
