What is composite decking?

Category: Home Improvement

Answer:

Composite DeckingComposite decking is a decking option that is available to home owners which is manufactured using a mixture of wood fiber and a plastic polymers (polyethylene, PVC, polypropylene) that creates a product that mimics the appearance of natural wood. In many cases, the combination of these materials will form a decking material that requires less maintenance and has a longer lifespan than any type of wood decking. Composite decking is typically more expensive to manufacture but over time, the maintenance, repair and replacement costs associated with natural wood decking will outweigh the higher price tag of composite decking. There are two types of composite decking, solid and hollow. Solid composite decking is heavier and will often contain between 40% – 60% real wood so it will act and look more like natural wood. Hollow composite decking is lighter and has a more synthetic look.
