What is Lent?

Category: Dates to Remember

Lent is the tradition held by Christians that symbolizes the forty days that Jesus withstood and endured temptation by Satan. It begins in early March on Ash Wednesday and ends 40 days later on Holy Thursday, three days before Easter Sunday. The season of Lent is a time for Christians to reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. During this time Christians will abstain from meat on Fridays, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday and typically sacrifice certain luxuries in an attempt to mimic Christ’s suffering and deprivation.
