What is voir dire?

Category: Law

Answer:

Voir dire is a term that is used to describe the jury selection process of a civil or criminal trial in the US. During the voir dire process, potential jurors are interviewed by both the defense and prosecution to determine if they are suitable, in the eyes of the attorneys, to serve on the jury. The attorneys are given the right to challenge and dismiss a prospective juror if that individual shows a possible bias towards any of the key elements of the case. The pool of potential jurors is chosen at random at the county, state, or federal levels.
