What is National Wear Red Day?

Category: Dates to Remember

National Wear Red Day is observed on the first Friday in February. It is a day that brings awareness toward heart disease affecting women. Anyone can participate in this national movement by wearing their favorite red dress, shirt, tie, or Red Dress Pin.

In 2003, The NHLBI introduced the red dress as a national symbol for women and heart disease awareness since heart disease and heart attacks have been predominantly associated with men. The American Heart Association later adopted this symbol to create a collective voice among all organizations committed to fighting this cause.

The Go Red For Women movement works to make sure women know they are at risk so they can take action to protect their health.
